Awe Walk

So the last week in class we talked about positive psychology and some ways we could use specific techniques or events in our life's to become more positive or happy. After our discussion we were called out to use some of these techniques in our lives or to go out and experience new things that would inspire certain feelings. With this push, I decided to go on what Dr. Pris called Awe walks. Over this week, I took two awe walks and they actually led to two awesome experience. The first walk I took was around the Abilene State Park. Though this park wasn't a new place to me it was still a new experience. I drove to the pool about 8 o'clock and got out of my car. Starting at the pool I decided to walk a path I had never taken before. I walked down some steps behind the pool down to a relatively empty creak. From here I could hear running water and actually happened upon a creek with a little more water. Here I found a large rock and sat down and listened the running water while the sun dipped below the horizon. This experience was actually quiet amazing. I was over joyed with a sense of peace and belonging. I realized I was here for a purpose I felt amazing. I was so happy we had been assigned this project. I felt that this was a God thing he had to called me here to show me his masterpiece.

Walk 2

The second walk wasn't quiet as nice as the first but it was still very enjoyable. Seeing that we just moved into a new house I decide to explore the area around my house. I woke up around up around seven am and walked out my back door, hopped my fence, and walked into the open field behind the house, After about 5 minutes of walking I came upon on a tree line. Even though this was private property, I kept waling. I ended up coming along a barbed wire fence where some horses were standing in the pasture. All I wanted to do was hop the fence and ride them but that was obviously out of the question. Though this walk was short and I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about where I live and the lay of the land. I saw some beautiful animals and actually became really appreciative of where I live. I can do the things I want to do but when it comes down to it I can still spend some peaceful time out in the country. These walks helped me appreciate my life and my hometown.

  1. I think it's really cool that you chose to do this task, because I know a lot of people (including myself) chose to do the 3 positive things task. Both of your experiences with being still in nature and just observing sound like they were quite amazing! I'm glad that you enjoyed this assignment so much and that God revealed a bit of His creation to you so that you could recognize it. Good job!

  4. Hey Austin, good job on the blog. Finally i found someone other than myself that chose to do this task. Being in nature can be so peaceful at times and I'm glad you had such a great experience. I thoughts it was interesting how you implemented God with your feeling of something being revealed to you throughout your walk. I know when i did this walk that I came out with a new perspective on how great the life I'm living is and it looks like this experiment made a great impact on you as well. Great job.
