About my Interests in Psychology
Alright guys. Seeing that we have to write about a branch of Psychology that interests us, I thought I'd at least choose one with some relation to my life. As a college athlete who spends his days at work, in class, or playing football, sports Psychology was my first choice. According to the American Psychological Association, Sports Psychology covers such topics as "Motivation to persist and achieve, exercise adhearance and well-being, expertise in sports , etc." Now when it comes to being a sports psychologist, it's not a walk in the park. Very few people are able to get an entry position with a only bachelors degree; most require a masters or doctorate in clinical, counseling or sports psychology. Along with these degrees there is some direct training involved. A Sports Psychologist can get jobs with colleges, professional sports teams, and even in the military. Now as much as I would love to say I knew all of this information of the top of my head, I actually used content from verywell.com to share all of this information. Although, I did learn the father of sports psychology is Colman Griffith. Dr. Alan Goldburg and Terry Orlick are also some prominent
people in this field of study. I got that tad bit from psychologyschoolguide.net.
So the reason I choose sports psychology as my field of interest is because I love sports
and the entire environment of the sports world. In my lifetime, I have had many ups and
downs but one thing that has always remained constant is sports. Sports have always put
me into a good state of mind and I feel as though being a sports psychologist can allow me
to help others get through their problems in a sport that should fill them with joy and excitement.
I speak from personal experience on the concept of finding joy and excitement in something
you should love. At the beginning of this year, I struggled really hard with my place in football
and I wasn't passionate about it anymore. I had family issues that affected my playing abilities
and I was just in a really bad place in my life but just being around friends and my fiancee really
helped me out, though it took quite a bit. I wasn't back to my old self until about three quarters
of the way into the season. Had I seen a sports psychologist, I could've been back on my feet
and overjoyed to play a lot sooner and I admire those who do that for people. I also feel like this
field would allow me to be in the team environment that I love and give me a job that is both fun
and challenging.

I honestly think that is a really cool that sports help you when hard times hit. I do understand how that goes because volleyball helped me through alot when I went through things myself. I hope that you are better now and will be for many years to come. If you need anyone to talk to hit me up!
ReplyDeleteYou have written well Austin. Good to know you are interesting in this field of psychology. It is definitely interesting when you are already a player and know in and outs of sports. You've made personal connection to this area of study, that's good! Include citation/source at the end and add images.
